CBA North - Home Front Legacy Day School
CBA North Home Front Legacy Day School
Our latest day school took us to the magnificant World Heritage Site at Durham. We were privileged to hold the Day School at Durham University Library, Archives and Special Collections courtesy of Durham University and our host Alistair Fraser. Alistair, whilst working for Durham Library, is also leading on the excavations at Cocken Hall.
Our participants demonstrated great expertise and interest; representing collaborative projects such as Durham at War and Sunderland in the First World War, local heritage projects such as those at Chester Le Street and Bellingham and local museums, as well those atttending for personal interest.
Here’s what they had to say about the day!
- Learned how to use the App
- Particularly liked learning about WW1 architectural remains
- Learning a lot more about HER for my County and accessing it
- Learned loads about the HER
- I’ve learned so much about types of WW1 structures- could have listened much longer to Roger
- Realising not a lot has been recorded for the Durham area
Here’s what they pledged to do as aresult of the day!
- Will start recording sites
- I will be attempting to use the App after the holiday season
- Not sure how I can help going forward-I’m not a local to anywhere so can’t help with recording but happy to be a sounding board and will promote on my twitter account
- Will think about the physical things more – places
- Will explore the App on my laptop at home
- Will spread info re the App
- I will try to add the records of the sites around Alnwick, currently only one is listed.
- Will share with local history groups
- Definitely going to add some of our resources to this programme
- I intend to develop the Heritage Schools FWW training and incorporate the opportunity for schools to contribute to the Home Front Legacy project.
- Will investigate and collate information about local WW1 remains in our area.
